After Tax Season Long Weekend

We headed off to the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel on Friday. Originally we had planned to stop in Canmore and get lunch / bagels - but we got an email saying our room was ready at 11am and so we headed straight to Banff.

We ate at the Eddy for lunch - custom burgers all around and then got bagels and did some walking / shopping along the main avenue. James and I did well - we got a bunch of winter sweaters for 40% off - which is great as I just dumped a bunch of sweaters.

We then headed to the hotel, checked in (after they fixed our reservation - they had it all buggered up) and got the same room as last November :)

We couldn't get into the sushi restaurant on Friday, so we made a reservation for tonight and so we switched - James and I had lounge food & Spence had room service.

Today we pretty much chilled in the room, the pool and hotel and then went to sushi for supper.

Tomorrow we head home after breakfast and the plan is to continue relaxing with movie night and BBQ'd pizza.

Overall, a very good end of tax season long weekend.

Today we did a Friday day (lots of cleaning and dusting)....Spence started with math this morning and we're moving onto doing equations with problems on both sides that are equivalent (2v+2=v+16) and he thinks he we'll see on Monday when we review :)

Then it was printing and his printing is very slowly becoming more legible (actually it's cursive as he finds that easier than block letters)...he'll have better handwriting than his dad soon :)

Then we updated his plans for next week, his checking account for this week, we went through and figured out where all the cities he wanted to visit in Italy were on their map and how far apart they were and from there, we figured out where we wanted to camp out for our holiday in step is to get a list of stuff we're going to want to do and see if we can do it all or if it'll take two trips to see all the sites.

We read the Ranger and had lunch. I made some sub buns this morning with that new 1 hour bread recipe and they were ready and cooled by lunch. I also made some meatballs and tomato sauce and Spence had a meatball sub. I had split pea soup (veggie style) with a sub bun on the side and a caprice salad (of which, Spence ate the cheese and I ate the tomato). I also made a sandwich bread out of the same recipe (though that took about 1.5 hrs in total - still the shortest time to make bread I have had) and the bread turned out good. I think though I have to put some butter on the top of the bread near the end to keep it soft - I'm good at artisan style (nice crunch exterior and big holey interior) but the whole soft bread thing is still a work in progress. I made a whole wheat sesame sandwich bread - it's cooling and will be sliced and put in the freezer for sandwiches and toast later today.

While Spence vacuumed and dusted the house, I finished some laundry, cleaned up the kitchen, went through another cupboard in the kitchen in my spring cleaning schedule and got the dry cleaning organized to get out the door.

I went to drop the dry cleaning off in the car (so I wouldn't forget to take it today) and saw that some idiot had dug up our little lilac bush and carried it off about 1/4 - 1/3 the way to the curb - poor little plant. It had been safely tucked into it's spot this morning. I went and put it back in its place and covered it back up with soil and hopefully it'll be had little buds out and everything :( it's Spencer's little bush and it's his favorite.

Now we're just waiting on the Orkin guy to come by and make sure the condo board did seal up the hole in our foundation and then I'm off to do groceries and get supper organized.

Still sick, but better than yesterday - didn't feel like I'd been trampled by elephants :)

The weather was cooperating (15c today) and so I had all the doors and windows open to get some fresh air into the house.

Spence got woken up by me today, because we had plans with Jonathan .... wasn't too happy about getting up, but it was either that or play less later. We started with the Ranger, spelling, writing, math, printing, reading and finally drums - done as quickly as possible, so that he'd have plenty of time to get organized for going over to Jonathan's place.

We headed off after lunch and stayed until 4, when we had to leave to get a few groceries and get dinner on (hot dogs & fries tonight). We got home and the dining room light gave up the ghost and although the fan works on it, the light refuses to work .... I think I'll be buying a new light fixture - didn't like that one anyways. I'll finish replacing all the icky light fixtures in this place over 20 years at this rate - I just wait till they stop working and then replace them :)

Spence decided he wanted meatball subs tomorrow for lunch and so I made meatballs for tomorrow and if we have buns left from tonight, he'll use those, otherwise, I'll be making the new 1 hour bread recipe I tried the other day - soft, yummy buns - took literally 1 hour from start to finish!

Well, I woke up still sick and was debating if I should crawl back into bed or not. I decided on a quick walk with the dog and an extra cup of coffee and that get me going - although still not feeling great, well enough to teach and do stuff around the house.

Spence started by watching some TV while I got organized and then we read Ranger, he watched a History Channel show on Moses and then we did spelling, printing practice, math, reading and worked on lunch and laundry.

He chilled until drum lessons and then I decided I was still too sick to go climbing (I know - big wuss).

I had gone to the tofu truck in the afternoon and dropped off the recycling - so I was pretty wiped out by the time we had to leave for drums.

Tonight is Taco Tuesday, so I made that for the boys and I'm debating between toast and soup.

Today, Spence was feeling pretty good first thing - finished school as quickly as possible to have some time to chill before soccer.

We got there in plenty of time, he had a great time and then when we got home - he played some games, I made supper (Butter Chicken - low fat with rice) and our electrician came to fix some wiring issues.

We were supposed to head out to the year end tax party, but James was still not feeling great.

1st day of Soccer

We all relaxed today - had left overs and went out to tan on the deck (it was warm enough today to chill on the chairs).

Saturday April 30

Last day of persona tax season for James :)

While James was out working, I finished working on supper (quesadilla bbq), did some chores and went out for coffee with some neighbours.

We had a great supper once Tina arrived - everyone made their quesadilla and James bbq'd them for everyone. We had tortilla chips and guacamole and salsa on the side.
